Programmable Thermostats Lets You Maximize Your Comfort and Energy Savings

If you still have a manual thermostat, you’re behind the times, frankly. Programmable thermostats have been around for a while now, and they’ve proven themselves to be a great addition to your air conditioning and heating system. If you’ve resolved to save more money in 2018, spending a little on a programmable thermostat is a step in the right direction. When you consider that your air conditioning and heating system (HVAC) uses the most energy of any appliance or fixture in your home, it makes sense to try and maximize any energy savings that you can. Programmable thermostats have many benefits, including:

  • They increase your HVAC system’s overall efficiency and decrease its workload

  • Can result in lowered monthly utility bills year round

  • Can extend your HVAC system’s lifespan by up to 5 years

Programmable thermostats are easy to use, and you can program it once and forget it, or program it for vacation or for a temporary time period when you have company, etc. Follow these tips to save the most: Winter Program your thermostat to 69 degrees when you[re home and awake, and cooler when you go to bed. Consider wearing a sweater or adding a blanket to the bed if that’s too cool for you. When you’re away at work, you can program the temperature to go even lower, say 60 degrees or so. Summer Program the thermostat to raise the temperature when you’re away, and to lower it to 75 degrees when you’re home. If you have the humidity levels set correctly, this will be comfortable. Vacation Program the thermostat for however many days you will be away, raising the temperature when it’s summer, and lowering the temperature when it’s winter. Never set the temperature above 80 degrees in the summer. You run the risk of high humidity and making your refrigerator and freezer work too hard. If you’re away from home in the winter, you can program the thermostat as low as 50 degrees, assuming you don’t have pets or plants in the home. 65 degrees would be more suitable if you have plants or pets. Of course the best thing you can do to save money on your cooling and heating bills is to replace your old and failing HVAC system with a new, energy efficient system. All new systems come with programmable thermostats. Special financing is available. Call Climatemp today at 251-968-6006 or use our contact form to schedule a free estimate.
