The Months of Heat and Humidity are Upon Us – Is Your Air Conditioning System Ready?
The saying goes April showers bring May flowers, but here in Alabama, April brings a return to full-time humidity and rising temperatures. You may not have used your air conditioning since late last fall. If you haven’t had an HVAC technician out to examine and maintain your central air conditioning unit in a few years, call Climatemp today at 251-406-9744 to schedule a tune-up.
Before you turn on the AC, change the air filter. A clogged filter is guaranteed to cause you trouble. You should change the air filter at least every three months, and more often if you use the el cheapo model. You should also change the air filter at the beginning of cooling season and the beginning of heating season.
Turn on the AC at your thermostat. Make sure the toggle switch is on Cooling, and lower the temperature to 70 degrees or so. When you turn on your central air conditioning at the thermostat, listen for your system to kick in. If you don’t hear anything, and the unit outside is not running, call Climatemp to schedule air conditioning repair. If it does turn on, wait about 10-15 minutes, and you should be able to feel the indoor temperature cooling down. If all you feel is warm air blowing out of the registers, call for air conditioning repair.
There could be several issues with your central air conditioning unit if it is not turning on or not cooling your home. They include:
- A tripped breaker
- Incorrect thermostat settings
- Ice on the coils

- Dirty compressor
- Coolant leak
- Blown capacitor
- Worn or misaligned belt
- Blower fan problem
- Worn bearings in the motor
- And more
